How Can Clogged Ears Be Treated?

my son that is almost 14 years old had went to the hospital due to blocked ear wax in his ear. the hospital did in fact take some of the ear wax out with a solution and gave him some drops to go into his ear and amoxicillin capsules. he doesn t hurt anymore inside his ear but he did say that since I ve been doing the drops inside the ear he doesn t hear as good. in fact he told me it sounds about the same when it was clogged. we are now going on the 4th day now of taking the drops and there s no improvement. Could It Be Still clogged or what could it be. because when we were at the hospital the doctor checked inside his ear and said there was no more blockage. if you could please get back with me as soon as you can thank you so much.

Hi,

If the ear is still clogged then it can be due to other causes like blocked Eustachian tube or fluid behind the eardrum.

You should consult an Otorhinolaryngologist and get him checked, a clinical examination and an X-ray or MRI scan can be done for confirmation.

Along with it, you should try using decongestant nasal drops like Otrivin nasal drops to see if the blockage reduces. Also, it should be checked that the eardrum is fine and is not inflamed or perforated.

Along with it do steam inhalation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
