Hi, I have a cold. Saw my doc on Monday due to sinus congestion, cough, ear ache and burning throat. My lungs are clear and no fever. Prescribed steroids to move sinus blockage. Started them yesterday. Coughed hard about 5 minutes ago and my heart started fluttering like crazy. Like, b-b-b-b-bbbbbbbbb-b-b-bbbbbb . any idea what is happening?

Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, do a clinical exam by your Doctor to know the exact sign of heart as described by you and please follow like this:

1) Do a [Nasal endoscopy, Blood differential count, and a CT scan] to know the exact status of the sinus.

2) Use the nasal saline spray and discuss with your Doctor about prescription medications like:
a) Fluticasone (nasal spray)
b) Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride [Decongestant]
c) Azithromycin for secondary bacterial infection

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Try to avoid upper respiratory infections. Minimize contact with people who have colds. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, especially before your meals.

2) Carefully manage your allergies. Work with your doctor to keep symptoms under control.

3) Try to avoid cigarette smoke and polluted air. Tobacco smoke and other pollutants can irritate and inflame your lungs and nasal passages.

4) Use a humidifier.

If the air in your home is dry, such as it is if you have forced-air heat, adding moisture to the air may help prevent sinusitis. Be sure the humidifier stays clean and free of the mold with regular, thorough cleaning.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
