Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my doughter is having cold and cough, she is 2 and half month old now. we have consulted a doctor and he prescribed Ambroxol Hydrochloride drops with Cephalexin oral suspension IP for 5 days, still its not cured completely and she is having cough in between, can I continue the same or any other medicine advisable?
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Cold and cough may be signs of respiratory infection or allergy. Most respiratory infections are caused by viruses and may need only symptomatic treatment. However, bacteria infection is possible and will justify the use of antibiotics like cephalexim.Treatment duration is however variable and may extend averagely up to 7 days. I will suggest you try the following: -Continue with cephalexim up to day 7 -Continue with ambroxol hydrochloride to day 7 -Add a steroid like celestene drops for say 5 days -Avoid environmental irritants like cold, dust and smoke If symptoms persist, you see the Doctor for reevaluation. Hope this will help Best regards
