How Can Cold And Fever Be Treated?

I have a cold with a fever of 100 degrees, it goes down after I take Nyquil at night. I am taking Dayquil during the day and the fever is back up. I was tested for strep at employee health, that was negative. They told me to take advil, but the fever came back today. Is there anything else I should be taking?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Fever with cold usually comes from viral upper respiratory tract infection. For that, symptomatic management should be done.

Paracetamol and decongestant tablet like Levocetirizine beneficial for that. Vitamin C tablet twice a day for five days can be prescribed. Salt water gargle can also be done with warm water three times a day and avoid excess spicy foods.

If no improvement in three days, then following below work up done:
-CBC
-Auscultation
-Throat swab
-Chest x ray if needed

Consult a pulmonologist for the examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
