How Can Colon Cancer Along With Pulmonary Fibrosis Be Treated?
I am 57 years old and have recently been diagnosed with colon cancer for which the doctor indicates he think is treatable. I am scheduled for an oncology visit in another week to discuss surgery and treatment. I have also been recently diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis for which I have been told they won t treat until the colon issue is addressed. I have been a non smoker for over 20 years. However, my breathing is labored, walking fatigues me and I am having lower back pain, arm pain and some neck/shoulder pain. Is the two the colon cancer and fibrosis related and what should I expect. What physical or dietary concerns should I have? How can I help myself?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Sorry, to hear of your disease. To be honest there is no direct relation between the colon cancer and the fibrosis if there is no metastasis to lungs which obvious is not the case as told to you. Treatment of colon cancer is mostly surgery plus minus chemotherapy, that's a job left to oncologist and with good hopes. Regarding lung fibrosis there are a lot of causes of it, some are treatable other are difficult to treat. However that would need some good work up by pulmonologist and then plan ahead. About diet I would advise you take more fibers and no more strict restriction, for your fibrosis the definite plan would be from your Pulmonologist but better avoid smoking , annual flu vaccine would be recommended. Expectation for colon would be lot if not advanced, while for fibrosis would depend on type as said earlier some are manageable other may not be but still people survive for many years even if the type is not treatable.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
