How Can Constant Nausea Be Treated?

My mother is experiencing constant nausea which I think is coming from all the meds she takes. She is in rehab having suffered a compression fracture on T12 so she is also having sever pain. The concern is that she has barely eaten (less than 200 cals) per day for last three weeks while being treated in a hospital and rehab center. What can I give her to settle her stomach so she will eat. She has no appetite either

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what your mother had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it can be side effects of pain meds which can trigger NSAID induced gastritis.

Using antacids like Omeprazole before meals alongside Motility agents like domperidone can help with nausea. If persist, blood workup for serum electrolytes should be done.

Soft diets avoiding heavy, fatty, spicy meals must be ensured.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
