Dear Doctor, My baby boy is 25 days old and he was delivered with CS. we have been feeding him mother milk as well as milk. Last few days his stool is hard and due to this, he cried a lot for long as difficult to pass it. Once he is able to poo he stops crying. There is no child specialist nearby so please suggest us what should we do as parents? With regards, N Santosh Singh
Dear Mr santosh I understand that our baby is having a constipation with hard stool. Usually we advise exclusive mothers breast milk for minimum of six months. hard stool can be due to dehydration also. First of all please apply some emolient like boro plus ointment,to sooth the anal opening as it usually becomes dry, itchy and painful in hard stool. Increase no of feeds (every 2 hrly) and on demand. If milk is given from out side please look at the hygienic condition to prevent gastro infection. spoon feeding is better than bottle feed. hope this helps welcome for further queries
