How Can Coronary Artery Disease Be Treated?

I recently had a nuclear EKG , due to an anomaly noticed on a routine stress EKG, which turns out to show the effects of blockage in my arteries. I m 58 and have been active my whole life. At ideal weight, never smoked, blood work shows no major issues with total cholesterol and no physical symptoms. So now I m going Vegan, maintaining a consistent exercise routine and taking statins. My question is: Is artery blockage reversible? My cardiologist says with low LDL, driven down by statins and diet, can reverse the blockage. What is your take and any other suggestions? THX

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Sir in your case I would have liked to have history pertaining to any symptoms like exertional or resting chest pain or any history of palpitations..
As per your lifestyle being a regular walker and nonsmoker the chances of significant block would depend on the age which is a non modifiable factor for Coronary artery disease.
Now as regards to ECG suggestive of coronary artery blockage, the same must be proved by doing an angiography and depending on the same further management would be possible
Blockages are common with advancing age but the percentage and number of artery blockade is the basis for treatment.
Now coming to the actual question, the reversibility of myocardium(heart muscle) which has not been necrosed(dead) is possible.
The blockade of artery can be bypassed or stented but spontaneous reversal is not known.
