How Can Cough And Cold Be Treated?

I ve had a cold virus for 6 weeks and still taking over counter vitamins and drugs. Have upper chest heavy feeling from base of neck top of breast bone occasionally. Still coughing and sinus drainage. No fever was at my internist 2 weeks ago and he said it was virus and not flu.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A cough can, unfortunately, last for up the six weeks after most of the other symptoms of a cold have resolved. The drainage of the sinus would contribute to a cough. The main over the counter treatment would be antihistamine or decongestant combination Zyrtec-D, Allegra-D, Claritin-D, Benadryl-D. A cough suppressant may be added to this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
