Hello,

Cough in children is very common especially after 6 months of age and if they are in daycare. This time they are more prone to viral infections, as the protection from the mother declines, and they are building their own immunity against infections- so it is a normal process.

Cough syrups are not very recommended under 2 years of age as they may have many side effects with little desirable effect in small children.

It is important to have a check of your son with the doctor to rule out lung infection and if the child is not having a lung infection no other medications are generally needed but nasal irrigation with saline solution.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
