Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have anal cancer and treatment with radiation and chemo tablets but fatigue yes, skin problems yes only on one foot, but very sore rear end and feels like the worst case of cystitis I have ever had, what can I use to ease the pain, stinging etc, I have also had Crohn’s disease since 1968
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Cystitis is quite common after chemo and radiation and is quite hard to treat also. First of all you have to get a urine culture and sensitivity duo to look for causative organism and to chose appropriate antibiotic. Antibiotics commonly used for bacterial cystitis are Nitrofurantoin, Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim. Avoid alcohol usage and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Cranberry juice is quite effective. In advance cases, cystoscopy may be needed and you can seek help from a urologist then.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks.
