Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has history of DVT s and PE s. IVC filter in 1998. currently on Coumadin therapy. presently his INR is 3.4. today he was diagnosed with a new DVT. The doctor is baffled and has referred to a vascular doctor. Your thoughts please. YYYY@YYYY
He needs parenteral anti-coagulant (heparin). Based on the history given your husband seems to be having Coumadindrug resistance resulting in recurrent DVT.
I advise him to consult the vascular surgeon for further evaluation and treatment of DVT which includes injection heparin. He also needs to switch over to other oral anticoagulants like Apixaban for the prevention of thrombosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
