It is not common to develop depression at your age. Though one can have depressive symptoms or anxiety. You don't want to discuss the problem with your parents because of fear of getting over attention. I would advise you to consult a Psychiatrist first of all to know if you really have anxiety and depression. Occasional symptoms can occur due to adjustment problem.
Anxiety and depression in milder form can be managed by own. Try relaxation exercises like yoga, meditation, Progressive Muscle Relaxation Exercises, Breathing Exercises etc. Eat foods rich and carbohydrates and protein with less fat. This will help to increase tryptophan in body which increase serotonin in brain and help to improve depression.
You can take help of a Psychologist for proper treatment. Behavior therapy and Biofeedback can prove useful and help to decrease anxiety.
If condition doesn't improve with these methods then consult a Psychiatrist. Medicines like SSRI, SNRI, tricyclic antidepressants are commonly used in depression and anxiety.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
You are 18 years old and have depression and anxiety. As per my opinion there should be no hesitation in talking to parents regarding these problems. This will in-fact help in improving the symptoms. Still if you don't want interference of them you can try Behaviour therapy and relaxation exercises. The relaxation techniques like Progressive Muscle Relaxation Exercise, Yoga, Meditation etc have excellent roles in Anxiety disorders. Breathing exercises also help in reduction of anxiety symptoms.
If symptoms persist even with psychological methods then consult a psychiatrist for treatment. Medicines like SSRIs as Fluoxetine, Paroxetine are commonly used in anxiety disorders and have good efficacy. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs and if possible talk to your parents about your problem.
Thanks, hope this helps you
