How Can Diabetes And Elevated Triglycerides Be Treated?

Hello.. I need some advise on my health conditions. I am 35 years old male with Indian descent (South East Asian). My mom has had diabetes for past 35+ yrs - so I am pre-disposed to diabetes. I am 5 8 and weigh about 150lbs. I have been getting high numbers on my glucose (3 month avg A1C is 6.9) along with high cholesterol and elevated trigycerides. I have been taking over the counter meds like fish oil caps as well as tried to maintain a healthy diet and routine. However, I do like to drink and my alcohol consumption is app 5-6 drinks a week. I have been continuously getting bad blood work and now my doc is considering putting me on medications such as lipitor, which I really would like to avoid. Considering my situation, I am seeking some advise on the best course of action for me. Thank you so much in advance for your help. God Bless. - Aman

hi sir,its a very common concern seen in almost all pre diabetics.you need not worry much.what is important is to maintain a strictly balanced diabetic diet with 45min of daily exercise atleast 5 days a week.please avoid alcohol however small amounts it may be.to quit smoking is also important.for my patients i suggest to follow the above advise for two weeks and then have the blood glucose(fasting and post prandial),HbA1C done.if the results are not satisfactory, you can start on medication.let me also tell you one thing that medication wont harm you in anyway.moreover they help you to control the diabetes better and quicker.so,just have a positive attitude towards medication.any other clarifications are welcome.thank you.take care.bye.
