How Can Diarrhea After Knee Replacement Surgery Be Treated?
My husband had a knee replacement surgery on 9/7 and has been on OxyCod/acetaminophen 325 mg and just finished his tramadol Hcl 50 mg and is having problems with diarrhea. Imodium isn t keeping in check. Should we go to er for check up and blood work?
Knee replacement surgery is a major surgery and sometimes doctors might use antibiotics to prevent infection. If your husband is having diarrhea after use of antibiotics then treatment with metronidazole is needed to fight possible infection with C.Difficile and also some oral probiotics might be helpful to restore the normal flora. It is important that your husband takes oral rehydration solutions to substitute both fluids and electrolytes lost with diarrhea.
If no improvement with the above treatment, he will need to see a doctor.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
