How Can Diarrhea Be Treated When Suffering From Diabetes And Heart Disease?
Hi...my 67yr old husband has been having diarrhea for the past 4 days; he s also diabetic & has a heart condition...otherwise he s a pretty happy & healthy guy...what can we do until he can get in to see his doc (he hates the thought of going to the emergency room)...thanks...
It seems to be infective diarrhea, so oral antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin and Metronidazole may be needed. Meanwhile anti spasmodic like Drotaverine for cramps if any as well as OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be helpful. Oral rehydration salts and oral hydration should be ensured along with soft diets and avoiding junk heavy or spicy foods. Probiotics may also be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
