How Can Diarrhea Be Treated While Suffering From IBS?

Thank you. I have IBS with severe diarrhea, which has gone on for 11 months now, causing a weight loss of 40 lbs. After a colonoscopy, the gastroenterologist prescribed Glycopyrolate and Citrocel. Everything I have read about these medicines seem to be for constipation, or ulcers. I have been unable to contact the doctor to consult with him about my concerns, so I am afraid to use them. Can Glycopyrolate and Citrocel actually relieve diarrhea symptoms?

Glycopyrolate can relieve symptoms of diarrhoea. It relaxes your intestine and causes constipation like effect.
Citrucel contains methyl cellulose that acts as a bulk forming laxative. It is usually used for constipation. But in presence of diarrhoea, it adds to the bulk of stool and may regularise the bowel habits. This happens more so in the presence of a relaxant like glycopyrolate.
In my opinion, your gastroenterologist is on the right direction. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
