How Can Difficulty In Swallowing Be Treated?

Hey !! My grandmother has been in Paletive care for over 10 years now, she is very skinny but well looked after, she has just recently gotten an absinthe on her tooth and in a bad state where she cannot swallow or eat/ drink. Is she having trouble swallowing due to the infection or is it a sign that she is about to pass on. There is a dentist who is going to pull her tooth out Tomoz but we are concerned that if we take out the toothe she won t be able to swallow her antibitoics to treat the infection or if she could even handle the recovery

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is understandable to be concerned but if the infected tooth remains it is possible that the infection may spread to involve other aspects of her body. The source of infection needs to be treated as soon as possible for her to respond to any medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
