How Can Difficulty In Talking After A Thyroidectomy Be Treated?
Hello,,, I had a thyroidectomy on 12/4 and I still am having problems talking . My voice is lots better since the surgery, but even the surgeon said not where it should be. he took a scope up my nose and down to view the vocal cords and he said the right one is a little weak and to see him in a few weeks, My next appointment is 1/18.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Varinder's Response
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic
In thyroidectomy sometimes there is traction or injury to laryngeal nerves which are pretty close to thyroid
Laryngeal nerves control larynx vocal cords so thyroid surgery may cause some dysfunction in speech.
Do not worry it may recover with time.
If you have any further query then you can come back to HealthcareMagic .
With Regards,
Dr Varinder Joshi
