How Can Dry Cough Be Treated?
3 weeks ago I woke up with a very dry heavy cough, no fever, no cold did not feel bad at all, saw my doctor, was prescribed, antibiotic, steriod, cough medicine with codiene took for the first week, 2nd week, called doctor back, cough still dry, sometimes better sometimes worst, was prescribed nasal spray, mucinex 600 mlg and a pill to take twice a day. Week 3 now cough is a little more loose, yellow mucus discharge in the mornings when I wake up and periodlcally through the day, just wondering is there anything else i can do??

Hello,
A dry cough at early morning may be due to allergy or infection or cough variant of asthma etc. Avoid cold environment, avoid smoking and alcohol intake.
Use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days.
Use tablet montelukast and Levocetirizine once a day for one week. If symptoms not improved please get it done eosinophil count, complete blood picture and sputum examination, a chest x-ray may be useful.
If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
