How Can Dry Cough While Suffering From Flu Be Treated?

my son had the flu for 3 days, some vomiting but nothing major. now since yesterday he has had a constant continuous hacking dry cough. i have tried delsym, warm tea, lozenges, steam, everything but it will not stop. he did take motrin and mucinex when he was sick. i don t know what else to do?????

I think this is a viral situation that these above mentioned symptoms are normally present. If this situation continue for more than 4-5 days with fever under this treatment (Motrin, delsym, mucinex) your son (need it the age?) should do a physical examination, and pulmonary auscultation by a doctor to exclude an bacterial respiratory infection that needs antibiotics.
