Hi,i am 30 years old and was rear ended at a red light last year. I walked away with minor aches and a dislocated herniated disc in my neck and severe ear pain..my ear feels like a chipped bone stabbing my inner ear..the pain very sharp and triggers sharp shooting pains in my head above my left ear. Hi,

Noted your short history of rear ended accident at signal, developed cervical disc problem, sevre stabbing like pain in internal part of ear and above the ear.
The most probable causes I can think of are as follows:
Injury to one of hte branches of trigeminal nerve.
Cervical disc problem causing referred pain.
LOcal Neuralgia, granuloma in the ear.
This cna be detected and diagnosed by the following ways:
You have to take an opinion of an ENT Surgeon, Neurologist and may be a Neurosurgeon.
Additional CT scan or MRI, Nerve conduction studies.
Clinical correlation with the sympoms and findings.
All these will give a cause and mode of treatment such as medical management in the form of Nerve pain killers like Gabapentin, Amitriptyline and so on.
Or surgical management of neurectomy or disc of cervical spine,.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
