How Can Earache Be Prevented While Flying?

I am traveling from Cleveland to Texas and on to El Salvador. Have only flown several times in past with difficulty. My ears hurt and I feel like I m in a tunnel with great pressure in my ears. I have chewed gum with no help. How might I travel comfortably?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You need to take a decongestant antihistamine tablet a night before traveling. Levocetrizine tablet. Also half and hour before the flight use some nasal drops. This will prevent locking of the tube.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
