Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently been on a KETO diet and lost 43 pounds. But, my cholesterol shot up and my GGT level rose 40 pts in 3 months. I am not a drinker, not even socially. How can I get my GGT level back down? I am going to quit the KETO and start consuming more plant proteins (less animal) and more whole grains to bring the cholesterol down, along with the low-dose stating my Dr prescribed. Will this help with the GGT?

How Can Elevated GGT Levels Be Treated?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I think your GGT will stabilize gradually as you lower the protein consumption. I think you may not need to take statins at all but need to be on a low fat diet because this elevated cholesterol may be caused by your diet. Take care. Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I ll be glad to help you.
