How Can Elevated GGT Levels Be Treated?

I have recently been on a KETO diet and lost 43 pounds. But, my cholesterol shot up and my GGT level rose 40 pts in 3 months. I am not a drinker, not even socially. How can I get my GGT level back down? I am going to quit the KETO and start consuming more plant proteins (less animal) and more whole grains to bring the cholesterol down, along with the low-dose stating my Dr prescribed. Will this help with the GGT?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think your GGT will stabilize gradually as you lower the protein consumption.

I think you may not need to take statins at all but need to be on a low fat diet because this elevated cholesterol may be caused by your diet.

Take care.

Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help you.
