How Can Elevated SGPT Levels Be Treated?

Hi, My SGPT alt is 56.5 and the normal range is upto 45, whereas my SGOT is within range at 28.7 I was detected with a fatty and enlarged liver last month. Since then I have not had any alcohol, meat or oily things. Also I have been exercising regularly. Still after a month my SGPT is above range. Any advice?

Hello,

As per the report, your SGPT level is borderline increased. So, you need not have to worry about it. Increased SGPT indicates liver injury which may be due to many reasons like hepatitis, alcohol intake, altered lipid profile, medicines, etc.

I advise you to take a liver protecting agent like Sobiline syrup and tablet Ursodeoxycholic acid daily for three months. It will help in the regeneration of liver cells. Repeat liver function tests after three months. Besides medication, you need to have certain lifestyle modifications like:

-Total ABSTINENCE from alcohol
-Avoid fatty vegan and nonvegan meals, fast junk foods, take plenty of oral fluids
-Eat healthy balanced diet preferably fresh fruits and vegetables which contain several anti-oxidants that help in liver cell regeneration.
-Do regular exercise and try to lose body weight if you're obese

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
