How Can Elevated Liver Enzymes Be Treated?

My daughter has elevated liver enzymes. Alkaline Phosphatase 212, AST 72, and ALT 230. She started to take Imuran 25mg. She has Crohn s disease. Back in December she took 25 mg. Enzymes were normal. She had her does increased to 50 mg. and she was also on a z-pack for a sinus infection. We stopped both medicines. Enzymes had been coming down and normalized. We thought Z-pack. Started her back a week ago on 25 mg of Imuran. Blood work today. Enzymes elevated. Should I stopped Imuran today and talk to her GI doctor on Monday?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I have read carefully your daughter history and I think that since the liver enzymes are moderate elevated you shouldn't stop today but can wait till Monday to talk with her GI doctor. You should know that all medications can raise liver enzymes that we call medication hepatitis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
