Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What questions to ask oncologist when gettting a second opinion? My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 esophacial cancer July, had been treated for 6months with chemo. It spread, so they took her off chemo Jan 16. We are getting a second opinion in which the oncologist stayed they could extend life 1-2 years?
I am afraid that it is an advanced stage of the disease, and it is not possible to achieve one to two years of survival. It is probably terminal stage, and she should have chemo and irradiation just to prevent obstruction. Also, she needs to have a gastrostomy tube to help her with nutrition.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
