Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Extremely Painful Polyneuropathy Be Treated?
I ve been diagnosed with polyneuropathy. Right now I have midsection girdling . So tight is the pain that I can no longer stand up straight. High BP treated with Losartan, Norvasc with hydralazine for extra med. Dr. just gave me low dose Prednisone as well. I can t stand straight; seem to be frozen in bent shape. All test results have been negative. Use Baclefen for muscle relaxant and gabapenten for nerve pain, levothyroxine 75 mcg. Temazepam for sleep. Am desperate.
In my opinion you have been given the appropriate medications. You are experiencing pain because the nerves are damaged, keep patience and take the medications as prescribed. If the nerve cells are alive the nerve fibers will regenerate. Stay away from addictions and keep your sugar levels under control.
Wear loose comfortable clothing, do deep breathing to get relieved, you can apply warm compress but be careful if you do not get relieved don't do it, try getting a light massage, get at least 8 hours of sleep each day. Take vitamins (B12 and Zinc) and supplements. You can take the help of physical and occupational therapy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
