How Can Fever Along With Cold And Headache Be Treated?

Hello, I am just recovering from a bout of a cold or mild flu; I had a moderate fever for 2 days with headache, fatigue, etc., and then on the 3rd day, when i thought i was on a recovery track, i relapsed slightly with chills, etc., and a nagging feeling of very mild fever for over 24 hours. My temp does not read elevated, but I am not sure that i trust the thermometers. I usually recover fairly rapidly once the fever breaks, but this seems to be hanging on. Am I being overly impatient? Thank you, Tom J.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Mostly as per history it seems to be viral flu. But if fever persists for more than 5 days, then further work up is done as follows:

1) CBC
2) Peripheral smear examination report
3) Auscultation
4) Throat swab culture
5) Antibiotic course also can be prescribed
6) Decongestant tablet like Levocetirizine for five days can be prescribed
7) Salt water gargle done with warm water three times a day
8) Consult the physician for examination

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
