How Can Fever Along With Sore Throat And Chills Be Treated?
Hi yes, thank you. My son is 12 and has had a fever of 100-102.8 for last 36 hours. We ve been giving him Motrin and Tylenol alternating every 4 hours. He also has a sore throat, chills and headache. He can t seem to get the fever down-the lowest was yesterday it went to 99.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have fever along with sore throat and chills which seems to be due to viral pharyngitis.
Need not to worry. Do warm saline gargles and take steam thrice a day. Avoid taking spicy and sharp food. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. I would suggest you to consult pedodontist for proper examination. Doctor may order throat swab test and blood test to rule out strep throat. Doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs (acyclovir) or antibacterial ( amoxicillin ) depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestant and expectorant .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
