How Can Fever And Cough In An Infant Be Treated?

Hello, We have a 17 month old 35 lb baby girl. She is teething and running a slight fever, with congestion, croupy cough, and thick, clear nasal discharge. We are in Florida with hurricane Irma and cannot get to any stores. She has had 5ML of Childrens Tylenol She is miserable! We don t have anything else, beside adult Max Strength Roitussin Multi Symptom Cold Can we give her any of that? Any other advise would be helpful!!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Keep the baby warm, well hydrated(warm liquids), boil her milk with few shreds of ginger&1/4th tea spoon of turmeric ... give it twice in a day. put some eukalyptus oil drops on her pillow/clothing ./apply vicks ointment(diluted with a bit of white petroleum gel) to her fore head &chest. If no relief in 24 hours take her to the nearby doctor for consultation/dispensing needful medication(for proper child dosage) Adult cold pill can be given depending on weight of the baby & ingredients of the pill...consult a doctor before giving it to the baby. (normally 1/8th to 1/10th o adult pill powder can be given to baby of her age. Mixed with honey or sugar syrup &water)If she digests it give it twice a day. Take her to a doctor if no relief/problem increases /some other complaint is added.
