How Can Fever And Severe Headache Be Treated?

I had been diagnosed with strep throat on Wednesday I have been given antibiotics penicillin potassium I started feeling better within the next few days and my fever disappeared. Today I woke up with the worst headache and a fever of 39.5 to 40°. Is it because the antibiotics are not helping or is it because it is a viral infection. Any guidance or help would be appreciated thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is because of the viral infection and sometimes headache and body ache and weakness can stay for a long time even after viral infection is cured. If you have fever again you will need more antibiotics. Rest and have a lot of fluids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harshita
