How Can Fever In An Infant Be Treated?

Hi, I think my 3 month old had a temperature last night... her head was hot but the rest of her body wasn t so I gave her nurofen because she was a bit wrestles and wasn t her usual self.. she still seems a bit drouzy and weaker than usual. What should I do? I took her temp in her mouth this morning because when she latched on as I am breastfeeding her mouth seemed hotter then normal. She was 38.6 and her clothes were wet from sweating but her body didn t seem hot only her forehead.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

This temperature of 38.6 , is high for an oral temperature, indicating that there is a slight fever present.

Weakness, drowsiness and restlessness may all indicate that there may be an infection present.

In the vast majority of cases, the infection may be mild such as a cough/cold.
You would need to monitor for additional symptoms which would point to the source of the fever and other symptoms eg a cough, runny nose, pulling at her ear etc

You can take her to the the doctor for assessment if the source is not clear or she is not doing well.

I hope this helps
