How Can Fibromyalgia Be Treated?

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 20 years ago. I practiced dental hygiene, my mother, age 80, had a stroke and father , age 88, lived across the street from me in a small town in Northern Arizona. I loved my job getting patients ready for perio surgery. They were numb ... I was not. My intercostals on the left side knotted into marble size knots and I was at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale have injections to relieve them. Soon Fibro developed. After trying most every med I was put on Topamax 100 mg and Tramadol HCl 50 mg for pain. It has worked for years but now I am having brain for?? What do you think?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As fibromyalgia is a condition where there is inflammation of the fibres of the muscles. A single muscle contains numerous muscle fibers and this muscle fibers act together to produce muscle contraction leading to movement of the muscle. As most cases in my clinical practice respond well to a combination of physical therapy , meditation and breathing exercises. Physical therapy includes
- therapeutic ultrasound therapy, TENS therapy and exercises Meditation
- helps to reduce the anxiety and depression. Breathing exercises
- this helps to improve the blood carrying oxygen cells and reduce the metabolic waste formed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
