Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking prednisone - 40 mg daily x 3, 30 mg daily x 3, 20 mg daily x 3, and 10 mg daily x 3. I am a 66 years old, female with BP 122/72 and active. I have finished day 5 and must take 30 mg tomorrow. I have gained 6 pounds of fluid. My waist is bigger, my face is fuller and my lower legs, ankles and feet are swelled. What should I do?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Get fasting blood sugar, serum creatinine level checked in the laboratory. Ideal is to stop the steroids but have to counsel with the treating physician for fast tapering or sudden stoppage with its advantages versus disadvantages.
Maintain daily weight, urine output chart, keep legs elevated over 3 pillows when resting, fluid intake should be less (keeping in mind not to go for dehydration) with use of potassium sparing diuretics only in conjunction with the treating physician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Purva Patel
