How Can Fluid Retention In The Body Be Treated?

Hi I m Mary, I have excessive fluid retention every few months, (right now its so bad I m about to go to the hospital or Urgent Care facility, doctors refuse to give me a water pill. I m on Blood pressure medication, 200mcg Synthroid for thyroid, cholesterol med, Tradjenta for diabetes. In December all lab-work was great and lost 35 lbs. Have had problems with fluid retention all my life but can t get any doctors to give me a water pill, even just to take temporarily. Blood pressure tonight was 95/62 pulse 82. I ve discussed it with multiple doctors over the years and nobody seems to care.

Hello,

Fluid retention can be related to liver or kidney disease or heart failure or low levels of proteins. These are the main serious causes of this condition.

Blood tests should help determine if there are any serious issues with these organs. An ECG and possibly an echo would determine if there issues with the heart.

A diuretic (medication to help with fluid loss) would not just cause a loss of fluids but also affects the levels of electrolytes that are loss as well. It would also cause a drop in your BP which is already low.
