How Can Genital Herpes Be Treated?

I contracted Herpes...genital..in my late forties. Am now in my early seventies. While attending a support group meeting in Texas (years ago). there was mention of a vaccination to prevent herpes. This was supposedly available In Europe. Any information on this and any progress toward a vaccine available here in the U.S.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Vaccine for genital herpes is not yet available for use of common man, it is still under research study. However, other medications (antivirals) like Acyclovir, Famciclovir, Valtrex are available. Visit ER, get physically examined & get treated. Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Nupur K.
