How Can Gout Be Treated?

I have been experiencing gout symptoms for over a month my doctor put me on colcrys 0.6 mg 2 times a day I had three severe gout attack in a months time, i went to pick up med at the pharmacy, she told me that i need to stop taking Atorvastatin 10 mg for cholesterol because it is working against the gout meds, then the pharmacist she also told me that the Lisinopril-hctz was not working because of the diuretic. I went to my primarily doctor told her what she said about the blood pressure meds, she change me to Lisinopril 20 mg 1 1/2 pill per day. now because I feel she did not take the time to know what meds would be better for my condition I have apprehensions whether to take this meds, plus I am African American female, I hear black people don t do well with blood pressure without a diuretic, please can you give me some information.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Unfortunately, some diuretics, like the one that you were using, can cause or worsen gout and this is the reason that it was discontinued.

It is possible that with a different combination of medication, your blood pressure would be controlled. If it is high, your doctor can add an antihypertensive from another drug family.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
