How Can Hair Be Made Voluminous?

Hello Doctor, Am 22 years old, Female. I live in a city where its too much of traffic and pollution. Till 18 I had very long and thick silky smooth hair. Slowly hair loss started. Now i have lost almost 1/2 of my hair. But thankfully I have good hair even now. I would request you to suggest me to control my hair loss. I do oil my hair once or twice a week. Other than this If i could do something to my hair so that i can get my hair texture and thickness back as before.

Hello.

I can understand your concern. It has now become a very common problem. Pollution and stress can take a toll on the hair, increasing the time the hair spends in the shedding part of the cycle rather than regeneration.

You can do the following:

1. Take care of your diet. A diet rich in vegetables and wholesome cereals should be consumed rather than that with refined carbohydrates.

2. Treatment of dandruff if present, you can use ketoconazole lotion or shampoos.

3. Supplements like biotin and zinc, the deficiency of which is known t cause hair loss.

4. Proper sleep for 8 hours a day and exercise for atleast half an hour everyday is important.

5. Avoiding stress or controlling it better with yoga and meditation or other forms of therapy.

6. Minoxidil 2% lotion twice daily only if hair loss becomes very evident. Minoxidil has side effects, hence should be used only if strongly indicated.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
