How Can Hair Loss After Child Birth Be Treated?

Im a 30 year old female. I had a child 2 1/2 years ago. Afterwards I had the normal hair loss afterwards. After about a year I believe it went back to normal. Then a year ago I moved to another country and have noticed within the last 6 monts that my hair has been thinning. It doesnt fall out in clumps... I do notice quite a bit in the tub drain after I shower but I have always been that way. I noticed when I pull it back in a ponytail I can sometimes see tiny bits of my scalp. Ive always had nice, thick hair and now its just thin flat. Im not sure if its postpartum still or stress from the move and daily life and it will just grow back in time or if its serious. I had a complete blood workup done when I moved and everything is normal. I cant go to a doctor as I have no insurance yet so what could this be? Im hoping it will just grow back. Please help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is not a normal thing to have such a hair loss. It is not related to the post-pregnancy situation because there has been a long time 2.5 years since giving birth.

I would recommend you to check thyroid hormone levels because Hypothyroidism may be a cause of hair loss.

Also, lupus may be possible and you should do anti-ANA antibodies to check it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka,
