How Can Hand Swelling And Pain At The IV Site Be Treated?

I recently had a gastroscopy and had an I.V. inserted in my hand, now (several hours after the I.V.s removal) the site of I.V. has developed a lump or some kind of swelling underneath the skin along with some pain. I have two questions. First, is this kind of swelling normal? Second what can I do to alleviate both the swelling and the pain? Thank you.
