How Can Head Injury In An Infant Be Treated?

My 2 year old just fell off the second step and hit head first on a sofa table and now has a dent and swelling, we are freaking out but he cried for a little bit and then started acting normal and eating a pop sickle. We have ice pack on it at the moment

Hi,

After noticing that your 2 year old is now acting normal and has minor swelling and dent after falling from second step it seems that no more treatment is required. Fortunately, in children minor head injuries are safe. The scalp is rich in blood vessels tightly adherent to the skull, so even minor injuries can cause swelling and bruise due to blood and fluid leaking into the scalp. you do not need to seek immediate care. seek immediate care if there is vomiting, changes in speech, neck pain, and severe headache or changes in level of consciousness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vandana Khare
