How Can Headache Caused By A Head Injury Be Treated?

I was throwing a softball today and my friend threw me a pop-fly. It missed my glove and hit my head right in the middle near my forehead s hairline. I put ice on it but now I m having a massive headache. This occurred about three hours ago. What do you suggest I do and what do you think this could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Head trauma can be concerning in some cases. According to the criteria, a CT scan is needed if there is a history of loss of consciousness along with headache. There are also other symptoms that warrant a CT scan but they also require loss of consciousness.

If there was no loss of consciousness, you can consider monitoring the headache and using pain medication. Rest would also be helpful.

If there is no improvement or if there is worsening or additional symptoms occur, then you should be seen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
