How Can Headaches Be Treated While Suffering From Shingles?

Last week, my doctor confirmed that I had shingles ... and added that the earlier ZOS vaccination a few years back should make the situation less painful and/or shorter in duration. The prescription: Famciclovir. Together with the tablets and soothing Calamine, I almost applauded the move toward resolution. Now, the problem: The headaches started almost immediately, tho the torso waist outbreak on the left side is scabbing over and much less itchy/painful. How can I deal with the almost debilitating headaches--note that there is some weakness of legs (unusual for me who walks her dog mile(s) per day, swims, etc.)--because I m only halfway through the prescribed 7 day course? The headaches are a sign of some concern for me and result in agitation/restlessness. Suggestions? Chris

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, it can post herpetic neuralgia, which can remain after shingles or herpes zoster infection.

If pain persists despite OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. More potent analgesics like tramadol or gabapentin may be needed. If severe Nerve block may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
