How Can Hearing Loss Be Treated?

Hi, I have had a squelchy ear for 6 months. I believe it may have started with water in the ear & at first my hearing was affected. I have had several courses of anti-biotics & my ear syringed. The hearing had improved over time but it still feels squelchy & that there is some water in there. The last two times at the Gp I had a swab which have both come back clear but still have the squelch. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your hearing loss might be conductive hearing loss because of any infective pathology in ear. Your Otoscopy ear examination should be done first. Than investigate with pure tone audiometry if needed. Hearing tests like rinne and Weber test also has to be done. If infection present in ear than antibiotic orally as well as ear drop prescribed. Hope this will help you in understanding approach of your case. Consult otorhinolaryngologist for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
