How Can Hearing Loss Be Treated?

I had a visit to a doctor on tuesday for a congestion situation...he was checking my ears and told me i had a lot of wax build-up and wanted to clean them out. i said sure after we take care my other problem....So his nurse got with me after my other test were done to look at my ears. She had a liquid in a bottle that she poured into my ears with some pressure .After doing this several times she got the doctor and he with the use of several types of tools tried to get build=up out of my ear canal ...which turned painful...they poured more water into my ears and then stopped.... looking into my ears and said i ll give you some ear drops to help with the wax build-up and you my need to see a specialists to use a instrument to vacuum the wax out. At this time i noticed i could not hear the doctor speak to me....out of either ear. I told him this and his response was ...give it a couple hours and the fluid will dry out. That was at 10 hours ago and i can barely hear anything at this time still. I went in with perfect hearing....what should i do ????

Hello,

As per your description, it seems that wax formed in your ear is really hard and difficult to take out. The doctor tried to evacuate it by forceful water or glycerol injection. But in your case it failed. So, I think he tried to make it soft by drops he prescribed you.

Now, because of some water present in your ear sound waves are not reaching the tympanic membrane and you feel hearing loss and fullness in the ear. Try to remove water by putting head the side of affected ear and hitting through hand on skull of opposite side.

Sleep with affected ear downwards. This will help you to get water removed from the ear.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
