General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I pill is an emergency contraceptive which causes postponement of ovulation to avoid pregnancy. Mostly it produces withdrawal bleeding after a week of consumption. The routine period also gets delayed by 8 to 10 days.

You had no periods for 40 days following I pill that suggests possibility accompanying hormonal imbalance. You should wait for the bleeding to stop on its own in case it increases and is non-bearable.

Consult a gynecologist for investigations to find any additional cause (ovarian, thyroid, pcod, uterine fibroid). Cause specific treatment or D and C with biopsy if needful would control the bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
