How Can Hemorrhoids Be Treated?

Hi, I m 24, I ve been suffering from piles / heamorroids for 8 years, I never seek any treatment from any doctor, I just use painkillers like tropofeen. The color of stool is dark brown it s sousage type lumpy mass in pieces, sometimes it s diarrhea the color is still too dark, it s always painful to pass stool but I ve done nothing about it since I m habitual to it, and never used medicine for it. I feel bowel movement pain, there are piles on all the sides of outer colon. I m worried will it turn into cancer as I have never sought for any proper treatment. My routine is to sit for 10/24 hours and study, is it bad for me to sit for so long? Did I get piles because of sitting the pressure that exert on my back? It my disease curable?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Hemorrhoids are protrusions of veins in rectal wall and there are several stages of hemorrhodal disease and the right treatment depends on type and stage of the disease. Initially it can be treated with dietary changes by having high fiber diet with lot of fluids and make your stool soft.

There are few procedures which can be used but surgery should be avoided unless there is no improvement on conservative measures. In early phase this is initially treated with dietary changes by having high fiber diet with lot of fluids and make your stool soft.

Also take fruit, vegetables, avoid chocolate, refined meat, overeating and food that causes There are supplements such as Psilium and Detralex which may help as well. Also, you should use sitz baths and have hemorrhoidal cream such as Procten ointment.

Also, you should use sitz baths by sitting in warm water for 20 minutes daily. Second, it can be treated with rubber ligation or sclerosation and in severe stages and this can be done in ambulatory settings. On the other hand, open the surgery is recommended only in resistant cases but for this you should consult proctologist about these options.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
