How Can High Blood Sugar Levels Be Treated?

It s regarding my husband. He s diabetic and taking amaryl, but his sugar remains in the high 200 s and his blood pressure is high. He s taking supplements right now and really watching his diet and his numbers are getting better. My main concern though is he is moving much slower than before( I ve been researching and I m thinking it might be bradykinesia?) it is a drastic change from a few months ago, when he s very energetic and was even playing a lot of tennis. Now he says he can t play tennis, I assume because he can t run , and sometimes when he walks he seems to be dragging his right leg. I notice he s also having problems with fine motor skills sometimes( opening small packets, for example ) just generally moving like a very old person when he s only 62, and he wasn t like this just a few months ago.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I think his diabetes is causing damages to the nerves. Please consult immediately with a neurologist and run a few neurological tests including conductory studies (CS) and EMG.

Monitor his blood sugar level (bsl), record the results for reference. Run a complete cardiac checkup (EKG, echocardiogram) to rule out possible cardiovascular events.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
