How Can Hypertension And Stress Be Treated?

Hi I am just researching. My son has been having high blood pressure problems and I m just trying to gather information to help him learn how to reduce stress and hypertension. He ended up in ER with his heart rate went through the roof and his potassium through the floor. He was critical but to date they have not determined what caused his potassium to drop so drastically. Thanks for your concern!! I love your website and use it for research for everything. I appreciate your time. Thank you kindly, Velva Myers

Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) Do few investigations like [Serum Aldosterone, kidney function test, TSH and MRI scan] to confirm if his blood pressure is primary or secondary in nature.

2) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [Endocrinologist] and take combined prescribed medication for blood pressure and take permanent treatment for underlying pathology.

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Eat healthy foods. Eat a healthy diet. Try the Dietary Approaches to stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Get plenty of potassium, which can help prevent and control high blood pressure. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Consult your dietitian to make a chart.

2) Try to decrease the salt in your diet.

3) Try to maintain a healthy weight. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweightor obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. If you're overweight, losing even 5 pounds can lower your blood pressure.

4) Try to increase physical activity. Regular physical activity can help lower your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems and keep your weight under control.

5) Try to limit alcohol and don’t smoke.

6) Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too.

7) Monitor your blood pressure at home. Home blood pressure monitoring can help you keep closer tabs on your blood pressure, show if medication is working, and even alert you and your doctor to potential complications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
